Martha Bowling

God in his infinite wisdom called to rest Martha Bowling age 94 on July 15, 2014 in Ft. Hamilton Hospital Hamilton, Ohio at 3:00 am.

Martha was born in McWhorter, Kentucky on October 26, 1919 the daughter of James and Mary Jane (Sargent) House. She was educated in Laurel County Kentucky Schools. On March 28, 1937 she was united in marriage to Willie B. Bowling in McWhorter Kentucky. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2001.

Martha was a member of the Northern New Home Regular Baptist Church of Goshen, Ohio. While her husband served in the military during World War II, Martha also served her country by working in a defense plant to support the war effort. Martha was a kind and gentle woman who welcomed her family that includes five generations and many friends into her home; there they enjoyed not only her hospitality but the many wonderful home cooked meals including the family favorite: her famous homemade chicken and dumplings. She also loved going to church, singing, sewing, crafting, quilting and decorating her home. While at Bradford Place she developed a love of art and became a creative painter.

She was the beloved wife of Willie B. Bowling. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Mary Lou Hurst and Eileen Meeker and her dedicated sons’ in-law, John Hurst and Bill Meeker, whom she loved as sons; she was the devoted grandmother of Shari (Jack) Botts and Tamara Watson. Affectionately known as Grandma Bow to her 5 great-grandchildren David (Peggy) Babb, William (Chanda) Babb, Angie (Ralph) Maurmeier, Erika Chitwood, and Zach Watson; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Martha is also survived by one sister, Bessie Mays of London, Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Willie B. Bowling; parents James and Mary Jane (Sargent) House; sisters Emma Parsley and Dora Ellen House; and brothers Virgil House, Roy House, Bill House, Bob House and David House.

Visitation will be held at BrownDawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave. Hamilton, Ohio on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM. Brother Bill Halcomb officiating. Burial will be at Millville Cemetery.
