Martha Proffitt Hemming

Martha Proffitt Hemming passed from this earthly life to her heavenly eternal life at home on Nov. 6, 2014. She was born on Jan. 11, 1934 to George and Ellen (Sergent) Proffitt in Laurel County, Kentucky. She attended school both in Kentucky and the Hamilton Public Schools. Martha started her working career with Champion Paper in Hamilton, OH in 1953. She later worked in the Chicago office as a Sales Service supervisor being responsible for sales and service in several states. She returned to Knightsbridge office at Champion and worked until her retirement in 1996. Martha received many letters of recognition for her outstanding ability to meet and exceed her customers expectations. Many of her customers became lifelong friends. While in Chicago, she met Waldo Hemming and they were married March 31, 1973 enjoying almost 32 years together. Martha was devoted to caring for Waldo as he suffered thru years of a debilitating disease. He preceded her in death in 2005. Martha leaves to cherish her memories four brothers: Troy (Donna) Proffitt with whom she made her home the last couple years, Art (Jan) Proffitt, Rusty (Kathy) Proffitt, all of Hamilton, Roy Proffitt and one sister, Gracie (Joe) Goebel of Fairfield, OH. She leaves one special sister in law, Mariam Koskela of Mesa, AZ. Martha also leaves several nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own children and they loved her. She also leaves special friends of many years: Nancy Albright, Debby and Kenny Lipphardt and Diane Gadd. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Proffitt. Martha was a woman of deep faith and great stature who was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She had a great compassion for the less fortunate, always willing to lend a helping hand. She said she felt "Smothered in Love" by her family and friends. Funeral services at Brown Dawson Flick, 1350 Millville Ave. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at 11 AM with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Visitation 6-8 PM, Monday, Nov. 10, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Cincinnati, Salvation Army or New Life Baptist Mission.
