Martha E. Short

Martha E. Short, age 75 of Hamilton passed away at the home of her daughter on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 7:15 PM. She was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on February 28, 1934 the daughter of Harvey and Bertha (Blair) Whisman. Martha was a member of Lindenwald Baptist Church. On August 28, 1951 she married Lowell Short, and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Alina (Shane Venters) Duncil of Trenton and Sheila Sebree of Dixon, Tennessee; a son, Doug Short of Morrow, Ohio; two very special grandchildren, Alana and Braydon; a half-sister, Jean Gilbert of Everts, Kentucky; four loving sisters-in-law, Eulene "Petee" Whisman of Fairfield, Doris Dinsmore, Chloe Ledington, and Linda Kelly, all of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; a brother-in-law, James Short of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Hobert, A.C., and Carl Whisman; a half-brother, Jerry Goodin; a sister, Opal Cloud; and a half-sister, Wanda Polson.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Raymond Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
