Martha E. West

Martha E. West, age 98 of Hamilton passed away at Mercy Franciscan at Schroder on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. She was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on October 2, 1909 the daughter of John and Lottie (Wilson) McCollum. Martha was employed as a seamstress at Howell Dry Cleaners for 11 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, was active in the Hamilton Senior Citizens, and was involved with the quilters both at church and the Senior Citizens. On May 28, 1928 in Hamilton, she married Horace West, and he preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by two daughters, LaVerne (Robert) Bradley of Hamilton and LeDale (Jay) Hartleb of Oxford; four grandchildren, Gina (Gary) Yee, Robin Bradley, Kim (John) Somerfield, and Greg Hartleb; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Marion "Pete" McCollum of Hamilton; a sister, Eunice (Billy) Cornett of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Clarence and William McCollum; and a sister, Bertha Baker. Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joe Tassell of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1770 Eaton Rd., Hamilton, Ohio 45013.
