Mary Elizabeth Cleaver

February 17, 1932 — March 12, 2014

Mary Elizabeth Cleaver, 91, of Hamilton, Ohio passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014 at Berkeley Square Retirement Community. She was born February 17, 1923, in Hamilton, Ohio to John O. and Zarelda (McKhann) Fry. Mrs. Cleaver received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Mrs. Cleaver was married on May 4, 1946 to Robert J. Cleaver Sr. A life long resident of Hamilton, Mrs. Cleaver taught in the New Miami and Hamilton school systems. The majority of Mrs. Cleaver’s career was spent teaching English at Harding Junior High School in Hamilton. In her retirement years, Mrs. Cleaver enjoyed spending time with family and friends including the members of Couples Club. She also enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. Mrs. Cleaver was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hamilton and a long standing member of the The Hamilton Garden Club.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Marcia Cleaver, Jr. of Fairfield, daughter, Nancy Cleaver of Indianapolis, grandchildren Amber (Cummins) and Phillip Fore of Fairfield, Stephanie (Cleaver) and Nicholas Colegrove of Columbus and great-grandchildren Delaney, Dacey and Dempsey Colegrove of Columbus. She is also survived by brother Jay (Phyllis) Fry and Nancy (Jim) Sturgeon, both of Oxford.

The family wishes to send a very special thank you to the excellent staff at Berkeley Square Retirement Community, Colonial At Home Care Givers and Hospice of Cincinnati/Hamilton for their loving care.

Per Mrs. Cleaver’s wishes, a private burial service will be at the Tea Garden Cemetery, Ansonia, Ohio for family members. Memorials may be made to the Colonial Life Care Fund c/o The Development Office, 520 Eaton Avenue, Hamilton 45013 and Hospice of Cincinnati/Hamilton, c/o Bethesda Foundation, P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, Ohio 45263.
