Mary Helen Gambrell

Mary “Helen” Gambrell, age 93, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026, surrounded by family. Helen was born on October 28, 1932, in Poplar Grove, Ohio to the late Carry and Donna (Smith) Hart. On November 10, 1956, she married Clayton Gambrell.

Helen’s life was a testament to love, kindness and generosity toward others. To say she loved to work is putting it mildly because she lived to work! She had several different jobs throughout her life including Ross Local Schools, McAlpin’s/Dillard’s Department store and ECI, Inc. working in group homes for disabled individuals. Here she was able to put her passion for caregiving to great use. She was always willing to take care of others whether at work, home or in her community.

Helen is survived by her children, Dr. Robert (Tracy) Gambrell, Linda (the late Jeffrey) Napier and Thomas (Melissa) Gambrell; nine grandchildren, Liza, Dori, Clay, Cole, Austin, Sami, Seth, Grace and Clayton; and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Aurora. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; and three sisters, Evelyn Lake, Betty Gross and Debbie Weeks.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Millville Village Hall (former firehouse) immediately following the services.
