Mary Carol Hawley Spurgeon

Mary Carol Hawley Spurgeon, age 78 of Hamilton passed away at her residence on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 9:44 PM. She was born in Midleton, West Virginia on June 26, 1933 the daughter of Stewart and Julia (Clyburn) Smith. Carol was employed as an aide in the health care industry. On July 20, 1979 in Hamilton she married James Spurgeon, and he preceded her in death in 2001.

She is survived by four children, Dean (Sue) Hawley, Eric (Christina) Hawley, both of Hamilton, Michele (Robert) Richards of Cincinnati, and Michael (Kelly) Spurgeon of Hamilton; three brothers, Vernon (Irene) Smith of San Antonio, Texas, Sonny (Gloria) Smith of Vermillion, Ohio, and Paul (Phyllis) Smith of Midway, West Virginia; four sisters, Charlotte Griffith of Collins, Ohio, Sue (Herman) Hendricks, Cozetta (Billy) Bazen, both of Pamplico, South Carolina, and Regina (James) Duncan of Glen Daniel, West Virginia; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Julia Hawley and Gary Hawley; and her loving pets, Scooby and Scooter.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joe Moore officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
