Mattie B. Johnson

Mattie B. Johnson, age 89 of Hamilton passed away at Birchwood Care Center on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. She was born in Laurel County, Kentucky on November 11, 1919 the daughter of Willie and Cindy (Rowe) Brackett. Mattie was employed at Republican Press and retired in 1978. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mattie was a member of Berean Baptist Church. On April 28, 1940 in Laurel County, Kentucky she married Kenneth Johnson, and he preceded her in death in 2003.

She is survived by a daughter, Wilberta (Larry) Warner of Hamilton; two grandchildren, Larry (Laura) Warner II and Michelle Lynn Meister, both of Hamilton; three great-grandchildren, Loren and Logan Warner, and Justin Meister; two sisters, Marie Medley and Dorothy Rooney, both of East Bernstead, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews, including Judy (Kenny) Pennington of London, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roland Brackett; and three sisters, Ruth Allen, Rose Blevens, and Lena Robinson.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Berean Baptist Church or to Birchwood Care Center. Mattie’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Birchwood Care Center and to Hospice of Southwestern Ohio for their care and concern.
