Melba Louise (Lyons) Burns

Melba Louise (Lyons) Burns, age 75 of Hamilton passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living of Hamilton on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 9:55 PM. She was born in Hamilton on December 29, 1934 the daughter of Edward Earl and Genevieve (Getz) Lyons. Melba attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from Hamilton High in 1952. She was employed as a cashier at UDF, retiring in 2009 after 23 years. Melba was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. On December 29, 1956 she married Louis Burns, and he preceded her in death in 1999.

She is survived by four sons, Greg Burns of Hamilton, Todd Burns of Cincinnati, Tim Burns, and Keith (Tracy) Burns, both of Hamilton; three daughters, Elaine Burns of Hamilton, Melissa (Dan) Kurzner of Fairfield, and Brenda "Bella" (Andy) Veldhuis of Hamilton; eight grandchildren, Chris (Stacey) Burns of Hamilton, Nick, Joey, Kristen, and Kara Kurzner, all of Fairfield, and Zach, Adam, and Katie Burns, all of Fairfield; four great-grandchildren, Maddox, Manning, Cameron and Rinoa; three sisters, Irma (John) Smith, Lois (Jim) Pohlman, and Nancy (Gene) McFarland, all of Hamilton; and three step-grandchildren, Matthew (Anna), Andrew, and Tony. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Donnie, Jake, Jim and Bob Lyons; and two sisters, Marian Enderle and Jane Mann.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 171 Washington Street, on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Stephen Mondiek, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Prayers will be said at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday at 9:15 AM. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Cincinnati/Hamilton and Sunrise Assisted Living staffs for all their compassionate care.
