Melva Ritzie, age 78, of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Sunday January 9, 2011. She was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on February 22, 1932 the daughter of John and Grace (Isaacs) Powell. A home maker Melva was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. A caring person, she was loved by all who met her. She was a former member ofj Freedom Chapel. On September 28, 1957 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana she married Frederick John Ritzie who passed away in 1983.
She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Ritzie, Theresa Reid, and special son-in-law Norman, and Vannessa Ritzie all of Hamilton; a special daughter-in-law, Dianna Rogers; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson; close friends Helen Quinlin and Darbie Thompson; a special niece Shelia Rhodes, and numerous other nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Cecil Wayne Rogers and Robert E. Woods; a daughter, Bonnie Rogers, three grandchildren, Dustin Ritzie, Damon Jones, and Angela Woods; and three sisters, Millie Rhodes, Ninnie Whittamore, and Lillian Miller.
Funeral services will be held at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave. on Wednesday January 12th at 1 PM with Rev. Neil Gabbard officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 AM till 1 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
