Melvin Schroder, age 75 of Liberty Township passed away at Heritagespring, West Chester on Friday, July 24, 2009. He was born in Hamilton on February 3, 1934 the son of Frank and Emma (Seals) Schroder. Melvin was employed as a tool and die maker at Fisher Body for 39 years, retiring in 1991. He was Fairfield Auxiliary Police officer for 14 years and a member of F&AM. Melvin enjoyed target shooting, gardening, fishing and various outdoor activities. On July 19, 1952 in Liberty, Indiana he married Donna J. Colgate.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Schroder of Liberty Township; three children, Gary (Phyllis) Schroder of Dayton, Texas, Beverly (Gene) Schroder of Monroe, and David (Beth) Schroder of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Mark, Jason, Nancy, and Sara; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne (Brenda) Schroder of Rossville, Georgia; a sister, Verdibell (Paul) Blanz of Ft. Meyers, Florida; and several other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Melvin’s family extends a special thank you to the staff of Heritagspring for their care and concern.
