Mervin Parker

Mervin Parker, age 72 of Hamilton passed away at his residence on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 1:05 PM. He was born in Hamilton on October 16, 1937 the son of Richard and Viola (Morgan) Parker. Mervin served in the US Army as a Green Beret Paratrooper during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. He was employed as a carpenter for 30 years, retiring in 1986. In 1958 in New Miami he married Gladys Hodge and she preceded him in death in 1993.

He is survived by two daughters, Lois (Michael) Cordeiro of Okeana, and Brenda (Jay) Fagin of Oxford; three sons, Ronnie (Lois) Hodge of Laurel, Indiana, Bobby (Jane) Hammons of Hamilton, and Rev. David (Jeanie) Parker of Vandalia, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marlene Stepp of New Miami and Pam (Ike) Moyer of Coral Springs, Florida; his good friend Champ Garrett of Hamilton; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Parker and Eldon Reece; a grandson Greg Hammons; and a brother-in-law, Steve Stepp.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. J. Kevin Lloyd pastor of First Pentecostal Church of Dayton officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
