Nancy Mead Spadafora

Nancy Mead Spadafora, resident of Longboat Key, Florida, formerly of Fairfield died Sunday, September 28, 2008 after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of Marvin L. Spadafora, whom she married on April 2, 1960 in Mason, Ohio. She was 70 years old. Nancy was born in Mount Holyoke, Massachusetts on June 13, 1938, the daughter of the late Joseph Charles Mead of Cornwall, New York and Ann Walker Mead of Chicopee, Massachusetts. She was educated at Notre Dame High School and graduated from there in 1956 and from Mercy School of Nursing in Hamilton in 1959. Mrs. Spadafora resided in Fairfield before moving to Longboat Key in 2001. She was involved in many aspects of nursing. Nancy worked for the Public Health Department in Hamilton as a public health nurse, taught classes for the American Red Cross in CPR, and acted as a member of their disaster team. She retired from Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati in 1996. Nancy was a talented artist, and loved to paint pictures of her beloved Florida and flower gardens. Her art lives on in the hands of her family.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin L. Spadafora; five children, Theresa Gervais of Fairfield, Michelle O’Neill of Middletown, Wayne Spadafora of Omaha, Nebraska, Peggy Kelly of Trenton, and Danyelle Sanchez of Bradenton, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggie Mead Koroncey of Lake Orion, Michigan.

Nancy’s greatest joy was her family. She often said, "They are the love of my life."

Funeral service will be held at the Stratford Heights Church of God, 4419 Nelson Road, Middletown, Ohio 45042 on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ray Phillips officiating. Christian burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Happy Gospel Church, PO Box 144, Oneco, Florida 34264 where Nancy enjoyed working with the children’s puppet ministry or to Stratford Heights Church of God, c/o Youth Ministries, 4419 Nelson Road, Middletown, Ohio 45042, which Nancy and Marvin attended while in Ohio.
