Norman G. Grevey

February 16, 1930 — January 30, 2010

Norman G. Grevey passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Mercy Franciscan at Schroder. Born February 16, 1930 to loving parents Gilbert and Martha (Petzold) Grevey of Hamilton, Ohio. He was a 1948 graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School and was Valedictorian of his class. He played on the Rams basketball team and went to the state finals in 1948. He graduated from Xavier University with honors in 1952 and was a four year letter winner on the basketball team. Additionally, he graduated from Chase Law School with honors in 1956 and joined the law firm of Brown, Kohler and Grevey. The law firm of Grevey, Ferris, Green, and Garretson was subsequently formed. During his fifty years of practice he was active in both the local and state bar associations, and in 1991 served as president of the Butler County Bar Association. Specializing in Divorce and Family Law, he lectured throughout the state sharing his expertise in this area of law, and was honored by the Ohio State Bar Association for his service. He also authored numerous articles on this area of law. His public service was extensive, serving over 25 years on the Hamilton Civil Service Commission. He also served as Chairman of Judicial Rotary Committee and was a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Sports always were a focal point of his life. He was an ardent supporter of all his children’s athletic and scholastic endeavors; however, his true passion was Indy Car Racing. May couldn’t come quickly enough and he spent countless days during the month at the Indianapolis Speedway. Attending over 50 consecutive Indy 500 races, he became friends with many of the famed drivers and their crew.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mona , who spent countless hours by his side as his health declined; six children, Jill (Tim) Hogan of Chicago, Illinois; Kevin (Sandy) Grevey of Great Falls, Virginia; Bryan (Alene) Grevey of Charleston, South Carolina; Scott Grevey of West Chester, Ohio; Sarah (Sam) Long of Chicago, Illinois; and Norman (Angie) Grevey of Springboro, Ohio. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, Ryan, Reagan, and Ross Hogan; Amanda, Kevin and Andrew Grevey; Erin, Kara, and Bryan Joseph (BJ) Grevey; Kristen, Morgan, and Stephanie Grevey; Samuel (Sammy) Grevey; and Catie, Connor and Chase Grevey. Mr. Grevey was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Grevey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Franciscan at Schroder, 1302 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45011 on Friday, February 5, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., funeral services to follow with Father Patrick Duffy officiating. Thereafter burial services will be held at St. Mary Cemetery, 4030 Pleasant Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45015.
