Orville L. Lunsford

Orville L. Lunsford, age 84 of Hamilton passed away in Hospice of Hamilton on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 7:50 AM. He was born in Hamilton on June 24, 1926 the son of Elijah and Bessie (Retherford) Lunsford. Orville was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946, a member of Hugh Bates #686 F&AM, the Shriner’s, Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, FOP #38, and the Eaton Road Church of God. He was the owner/operator of Fairview Market for 45 years, a special deputy for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office since 1956, and a bailiff for Judge John Moser and Judge Keith Spaeth for 31 years, retiring in 2009. On June 29, 1944 in Hamilton he was married to Reva Evans, and she preceded him in death in 1991; on March 28, 1992 in Hamilton he was married to Madge Napier Thorpe.

He is survived by his wife, Madge Lunsford of Hamilton; one daughter, Judy (Charles) Cooley of Hamilton; a stepson, Scott (Rhonda) Thorpe of Fairfield; two stepdaughters, Robin (John) Bulik of Ponta Gorda, Florida and Denise (Jim) Roberts of Hamilton; his best friend, George Begley of Hamilton; three brothers, Henry and Bill of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Glenn of Orlando, Florida; five sisters, Hazel Mangol of Davenport, Florida, Laura Snelling and Virgie Howard, both of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and Agnes Hughes and Rosie Creech, both of London, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Nikola, Janiece, Melissa, Melanie, Melinda, and Larry III; and twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Larry in 2008 and Donald in 2002; and one brother, Lucian.

Funeral services will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dale French, Pastor of the Eaton Road Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Building Fund of the Eaton Road Church of God.
