Paul J. Day, age 95, of Millville, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:12 AM. He was born in Hamilton on February 14, 1916, the son of A. H. and Frances (Staarmann) Day. He was a farmer most of his life in Morgan and Reily Twps. He was also employed as a clerk at Butler Landmark for 15 years, retiring in 1981. Paul was a founding member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and a member of K of C #968. In his younger days, he enjoyed softball, playing cards, and square dancing. Paul enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On November 28, 1942 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Cincinnati, he married Rita Roeder who passed away January 5, 2005.
He is survived by four sons, James (Jayme) Day of Eaton, Dennis Day of Millville, Philip Day of Okeana, and Noel (Tracy) Day of Fairfield; four daughters, Catherine (Robert) Cole of Iron River, Michigan, Julia (Gary) Hensler of Hamilton, Maxine Roberts of Hamilton, and Paulette (Dean) Fischesser of Liberty Twp; 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and 5 sisters, Margaret Hunter of Millville, Mary (Raymond) Conlin of Millville, Norma Von Holle of Lebanon, Rita Heinrich of Cincinnati, and Janet (Richard) Wurzelbacher of Cincinnati. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rose; daughter-in-law, Robin Day; two sisters, Bernadine and Erma; and three brothers-in-law.
Prayers will be held at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., on Wednesday, August 3rd at 9:15 AM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2550 Millville Ave. at 10:00 AM with Fr. Jeff Bacon, celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Stephen Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 2nd from 5 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Hospice of Cincinnati or St. Raphael’s. The Day family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Daniel Niehaus, Dr. William Krall, and the staff of Hospice. Also, an extra thank you to Gene and Mary Bastian for their special care.
