Peggy Jewel Barker, age 83 of Fairfield, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026. Peggy was born in Hamilton, Ohio on September 22, 1942 to Alpha and Jack Lawson. Peggy lived a life defined by compassion, faith, service, and unconditional love for others.
Peggy graduated from Garfield High School and later pursued her master’s degree at Miami University. She devoted her professional life to helping others as a social worker, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives through her work in both the Butler County School System and the Oakland, California School District.
Peggy was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend. To her children, she was the best mom anyone could ever ask for. Her love was unconditional and constant. No matter what, her children always knew they were loved completely and without judgment. She was always there for them, whether it was during life’s biggest moments or a simple phone call in the middle of the night when someone needed advice, comfort, reassurance, or just to hear her voice. Her wisdom, warmth, and calm presence brought comfort and clarity to everyone around her.
She truly loved being a mother. She thrived in that role and it was one of the greatest joys of her life. Distance was never an obstacle when it came to the people she loved. No matter how far away her family lived, she was always present in their lives. She traveled far and wide to attend school programs, family celebrations, grandchildren’s activities, and grandparents’ events, wanting to be there for every special memory she could share with them. Her children and grandchildren always knew they were deeply cherished.
Peggy shared a remarkable lifelong love story with her husband, Clifford. After many decades together, the two were married in 2008 and spent what Peggy often described as the happiest years of her life by his side. Their relationship was built on deep friendship, devotion, laughter, and enduring love.
She was an avid home gardener with a gift for creating beauty wherever she went, and she was known for her outstanding talent in home decorating, creating warm and inviting spaces filled with love.
She especially treasured her Friday night tradition of gathering with her cousins at the Hamilton West Side Frisch’s, where stories were shared, laughter echoed across the table, and lifelong family bonds were strengthened week after week.
A deeply spiritual woman, Peggy was an ordained minister and a devoted member of Revelation Spiritual Church. She was also a certified hypnotherapist whose caring heart and gentle spirit drew people to her for comfort, healing, and understanding. Peggy also deeply valued the friendships she formed through her dream analysis group, whose members had been meeting together for more than twenty years. Peggy spent her life helping others in every way she could.
Peggy will be remembered for her generous heart, gentle wisdom, unwavering faith, and the countless lives she touched through her compassion and kindness. Most of all, she will be remembered for the immense love she gave so freely to her family and friends every single day of her life. Her love, guidance, strength, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Clifford Barker; her children, Alison Goosinow, David Gorsuch and Carmen Carter; her grandchildren, Eric Gorsuch, Carrie Rutherford and Caleigh Carter; her great grandson, AJ Gorsuch; and many dear cousins and friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Alpha and James Lynch; her father, Jack Lawson; and her grandson, Anthony Gorsuch.
