Penny J. McHenry age 69 of Hamilton, passed away at her home on Sunday August 31, 2014. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on July 22, 1945 to Hubert and Mildred Singleton. She was raised in Hamilton and graduated from Garfield Senior High in 1963. Penny was a dedicated employee and worked at various local businesses including the Ross Local Schools, Black Clawson, Kornylak Corporation, and Force Control Industries from which she retired in 2010. Penny loved to read, always having a book in her hands, and she passed this love on to her children, family, and friends. Penny was fascinated with nature and enjoyed observing the antics of the wildlife that frequented her backyard. She was especially fond of hummingbirds. One of her special gifts was helping people. Penny was committed to helping those she loved and this commitment extended to various volunteer organizations in the community throughout her life. Her smile and laugh lit up a room and put everyone at ease. She was married to Richard E. McHenry, the love of her life, on February 12, 1972. Throughout their 42 years of marriage Penny and Richard loved to travel to new and exciting locales. She was a dedicated mother to her two sons, Jeffrey Roark of Denver, Colorado and Shannon McHenry of Hamilton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister Susan Hawkins, her younger brother Michael Singleton, her nephew Robbie Hawkins, her cherished aunt and uncle Gene and Leonard Roe, and her best friend Carolyn Sue Asher. She is survived by her husband Richard, her two sons Jeff and Shannon, her brother Jack Singleton, her brother-in-law Robert Hawkins and his daughter Becci Hawkins, her sister-in-law Mary Alice Kaufman and her husband Dr. Lee Jack Kaufman, their daughters Pam Browning and Betsey Shaw, her sister-in-law Carolyn Clemons, nephew Todd Clemons, niece Nikki Clemons, her "adopted" daughter Amy Asher Williams, high school friends Wanda Emory and Shirley Gray, and numerous cousins especially Sheryl Thiemann and Kathy Keller. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick funeral home at 1350 Millville Avenue on Thursday, September 4th, 2014 from 12 PM until time of funeral service at 1PM. Burial will follow at Hickory Flats Cemetery 2449 Jackson Rd. Hamilton Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences at www.browndawsonflick.com
