Philip F. Brate, age 84 of Hamilton passed away peacefully at Hospice of Hamilton on Thursday, March 15, 2012. He was born in Hamilton on March 17, 1927 the son of Foster and Myra (Gath) Brate. Philip was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1945 to 1946 and was employed as a machinist at Armco Steel. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. On July 15, 1950 in Hamilton he married Irene J. McWilliams, and she preceded him in death in 2011.
He is survived by three children, Susan (Donald) Arnold of Aurora, Indiana, Michael Brate of Henderson, Nevada, and Steven (JoEllen) Brate of Fairfield; a sister, Mary Ellen Johnson of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Robyn (Greg) Schlabach, Michael (Amanda) Bowen, and Angie Shockley; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Kyger.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor J.C. Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Hamilton.
