Morrical, Jr., Philip "Phil" O., 75, of Hamilton passed from this earthly life on May 23, 2013 at Mercy-Fairfield Hospital. He was born at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio on March 21, 1938, the son of Philip O. Morrical and Nannie (nee Webber). Phil was a 1956 graduate of Stewart High, Oxford, where he was named to the all county football team. He was a graduate of the REALTOR Graduate Institute, the Leadership Training Institute, the Real Estate Institute,Certified Broker Institute, the Senior Seller Representative Institute, numerous other professional institutes, and attended Miami University. The Owner/Broker of Morrical Realty, Phil was a self made man that entered the real estate industry in 1971after having worked at Champion Papers for a number of years. Phil also was an appraiser, receiver, and special commissioner doing work for local Common Pleas, Domestic Relations, Probate Courts, and various state and federal courts. As a developer and builder, Phil’s work can be seen throughout the region. During his career, Phil distinguished himself as the President of the Hamilton, Fairfield, and Oxford Board of REALTORS and was their REALTOR of the year in 1986 and 1993. Phil was a current member of the Cincinnati Area Broad of REALTORS and past member of their Legislative Committee. He was a current member of the Ohio Association of REALTORS (OAR) and was their 1993 President. At OAR, he also served on the board of directors, as the chair of the REALTORS Political Action Committee (RPAC) and currently as the Vice-President of the OAR Pension Plan. In 1986, he was named the Ohio REALTOR of the Year for his service to the industry and the community. He was a current member of the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) and board member from 1984 to2000. Phil was recognized as a Lifetime RPAC Member and was awarded the prestigious Omega Tau Rho Medal of Service by the NAR. As a REALTOR, Phil was a Certified Residential Specialist and Past Ohio Chapter President and the past Chapter President of the Ohio Farm and Land Institute He was a devoted contributor to the local community as member of many organizations and through his service to many. The City of Hamilton recognized his service by declaring September 15, 1987 as Philip O. Morrical Jr. Day. In 2007, Hamilton awarded Phil with a Certificate of Recognition for Making Community Improvements for his efforts in supporting city clean-ups, sponsoring the 4th of July Parade, and the renewal of Hamilton by the rehabilitation of countless number of property and providing housing to many. A strong supporter of local law enforcement, Phil sponsored a Hamilton FOP trip for local children to the Bengal’s training camp, donated towards the purchase of Segways for the Hamilton Police, and supported the Hamilton FOPA’s Christmas Caravan. He is a current member of the Butler County FOPA, the Buckeye Sheriffs Association, and a past member of the Hamilton FOPA. In his efforts to help the American Dream of home ownership, he donated property and buildings to the Butler County Neighborhood Association and to Habitat for Humanity to help their housing projects. In October 1987, the Butler County Commissioners recognized him with a Proclamation of Service for his efforts as Past President for the Butler County Board of Zoning Appeals, past board member of Children Services, past member of the board of directors for the Butler County Community Action Commission, and for his many years of support of the Butler County Fair and the 4H Livestock Auction. For at least the past 10years, Phil purchased either the grand champion or reserve grand champion animal, which may be a record for continuous buys of champions. A current member of the Lindenwald Kiwanis Club, Phil served as President, board member, and chair of various committees. He was recognized as Kiwanian of the Year, multiple times as Kiwanian of the Month, and was awarded as a distinguished Hixson Fellow by Kiwanis International and made a lifetime member. For the Ohio Kiwanis District he was a Past Lieutenant Governor for the 5th Division. Currently Phil was serving on the board for the Downtown Hamilton Special Improvement District, the board for Partners in Prime, and as a member of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee. Last month he finished two terms on City of Hamilton Architectural Design Review Board. He was a current member of the Washington F & M Lodge #17, the Desert Club, and a social member of the Knights of Columbus Council 968 / Father Butler. Phil was a fan of his beloved Miami Redskin/Redhawks. He loved exploring the back roads of places all over the world and meeting the people that lived there. Without fail, he could be relied upon to be found with his truck or an ATV buried in the mud on more than one occasion while taking the road that many others would not brave. He was the champion of the common person, never forgetting his roots and helping those that he could. Phil is survived by his wife Sherry (nee Musselman); his son Philip (Kimberly) O. Morrical III, his daughters Cindra L. Morrical and Melissa (Carl) A. Dowler; his grandchildren Kyle Philip Morrical, Allan Philip Dowler, and Ashley C. Dowler. He is also survived by his step children Chris (Kathy) Rogers, Patrick Rogers, and step grandchildren Eric Rogers, Laura Rogers, and Danielle Rogers; and his nephews William, Johnny, and Donnie. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Jane West, and his parents. Funeral services will be held at the Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Bill Cummins officiating. Burial will follow at Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lindenwald Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund in his name at the Hamilton Community Foundation 319 N. Third Street Hamilton, OH 45011.
