Philip Robert (Butch) Bergen

Philip Robert (Butch) Bergen passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at age 63. Butch was a star football player for Stephen T. Badin High School in Hamilton, OH, class of 1980. He later earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his master’s degree from The Ohio State University. He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Lamar Bergen and his stepfather, John William (Jack) Weiss.

Butch served in the Navy for three years after receiving his bachelor’s degree. He enjoyed being stationed in San Diego where he obtained his pilot's license. He went on to a successful career as an Aircraft Dispatcher for DHL and, later, Amazon. In his spare time Butch was a passionate fan of local sports, including the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, but especially his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. 

Family was very important to Butch. He loved family get-togethers with spirited game nights and vacations to Ireland, and many beach and lake locations. 

He is survived by his cherished mother, Janet (Gurr) Weiss, and his siblings Kathryn (Paul) Settle, Suzanne (Donald) Newcomb, Brian (Teresa) Bergen and Jason (Beth) Bergen. Butch was the "fun uncle", always on the floor, laughing and playing with the kids. He is also survived by five nieces and many great-nieces and nephews. Butch was deeply loved by his entire extended family and will be remembered as a fun-loving, kind, caring man.

His final resting place will be Rose Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, OH. The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life.
