Pleasie Jones Sr.

Pleasie Jones Sr., age 91 of Hamilton passed away at VA Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 11:53 PM. He was born in Leslie County, Kentucky on April 10, 1919 the son of Boyd and Nannie (Woods) Jones. Pleasie was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945, and was proud that both sons, several grandsons and great grandsons served in the armed forces. He was employed as a machinist at Mosler Safe Company and owned East Hamilton Auto Parts, retiring in 1987. Pleasie was a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of Hamilton Baptist Church. In 1941 in Leslie County, Kentucky he married Dixie Campbell, and she preceded him in death in 1973; in 1978 he was married to Marilyn Watson Phelps in Jellico, Tennessee, and she preceded him in death in 1991.

He is survived by a son, Pleasie "Bud" Jones Jr. of Fairfield; two daughters, Mary K. Phelps and Dixie Jones, both of Hamilton; five stepchildren, Mike (Karen) Phelps, Larry Phelps, Linda (Jim) Campbell, Beverly Lawrence, and Annetta Phelps, all of Hamilton; three sisters, Peggy (James) Waldon of London, Kentucky, Esther Napier of Hamilton, and Lila (David) Brionez; 47 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joel Damon Jones; a stepdaughter, Debbie McCoy; two grandchildren, Justin Phelps and Lawrence Campbell; six brothers, Fred, Joseph, Willie, Henry, Boyd Jr., and Edwin Jones; and two sisters, Sarah Jane Napier and Ella Rush.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00
