Ralph Michael (Mike) Callahan, age 77 of Hamilton, was surrounded by loved ones as he passed away at Hospice of Cincinnati (Hamilton) on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Mike was born in Hamilton, Ohio on May 19, 1947, to the late James Dennis Callahan and Hilda (Field) Callahan. He was the beloved husband of Gail (Purvis) Callahan with whom he shared over 47 years of love. After graduating from New Miami High School, Mike served in the United States Air Force from April 1, 1966, to January 5, 1970. He then worked for General Motors at their Fisher Body and Moraine Truck and Bus plants for 35 years. Mike attended Eaton Road Church of God with his cherished wife Gail, whom he married on April 22, 1977. Mike enjoyed sharing his love of music trivia and guitars with his family, friends, and neighbors. Mike and Gail loved walking the beach and spending quality time together on their back porch enjoying the birds and flowers. When friends and family think of Mike, they immediately think of his artistic and musical gifts. His sketches and paintings will continue to bring many future generations joy just as the cassette and CD playlists he created will do. Mike was also a member of a local Fish Aquarium Society and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. While we will miss our beloved husband, father, papaw, brother, and friend, we will continue sharing his “bad dad jokes” and perfecting our music trivia abilities in honor of this gifted man.
Mike is survived by his wife Gail, daughters Angela (Chad) Sayre, Jill (Don) Dudley, and Tara Callahan, six grandchildren; Logan (Maddie), Justice, Elijah, Abigail, Ezra, and Callan, one great-grandson; Grayson, siblings Jan (John) Wilcox, Kathea Lykins, Denny (Beverly) Callahan, brother-in-law and dear friend Fred (Sheila) Purvis, sisters-in-law Patty Hampton and Debbie Purvis, and brother-in-law John (Marsha) Purvis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Edwin Purvis and mother-in-law Celia Purvis, sisters Andrea Callahan and Sandy Sebastian, brothers-in-law Ed Purvis, Sam Hampton, and Larry Lykins, nephew Les Purvis, and dear friend Marty Wright.
