Ralph "Doug" Douglas Smith

Ralph Douglas Smith, age 64 of Fairfield, passed away at Majestic Care Center on Sunday, February 13, 2022. Known to most as Doug, he was born in Hamilton, Ohio on September 20, 1957 to the late Ralph Smith and Jane (Hart) Smith.

Doug graduated from Fairfield High School, class of 1975. Doug’s love for baseball started at an early age, beginning with Little League, Babe Ruth League and eventually even high school baseball. Doug found that he was much better suited for coaching than playing and came back to coach youth baseball. He coached the Landmark Little League Team and won many Little League City Championships. Professionally, he was the owner of Diamond Stars Baseball Academy and a scout for the Atlanta Braves. The only things that matched his love for baseball was the love he had for his family and his dogs, Mack, Joe and Bake.

Doug will be dearly missed by his brothers, Daniel Smith and Mark Smith; many close friends and many generations of players.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date, at the beginning of baseball season.
