Richard E. "Dick" Burns, age 81 of Hamilton passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Friday, November 16, 2012. He was born in Hamilton on January 12, 1931 the son of Clifford and Celia (Estridge) Burns. He graduated from Hamilton High School, class of 1949. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a news photographer at the Hamilton Journal for 38 years. After retiring from the Journal, he managed Minnick Drive Thru. Richard was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the American Legion, and the Outdoor Writer’s Association, where he served as president. On September 4, 1965 he married Rita Burns. Richard enjoyed traveling, and spending time on his houseboat and on the lakes. He was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed westerns and mystery novels.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Burns of Hamilton; four brothers, Robert Bobbitt of Tipp City, Charles Bobbitt of Oklahoma, Dennis Bobbitt, and Keith Bobbitt, both of Hamilton; Cousins, Sharon Sacre and Sandy Hiner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alvin Bobbitt and Darrell Bobbitt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 3350 Chapel Road, Shandon, Ohio 45063 on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 9:00AM with Fr. Ron Combs, Celebrant and Fr. Bill Dorrmann, Concelebrant. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue on Friday from 5-8pm. Donations may be made to St. Aloysius, the Animal Friends Humane Society, or Hospice of Hamilton.
