Richard C. Speicher, 82 of Hamilton, got his passport stamped for his final trip—destination: Heaven on Feb. 18, 2025, the anniversary of the day his own father made this same passage. His journey on this Earth was marked by kindness, faith, and a deep love for his family and friends. Richard was born on Aug. 1, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, PA to the late Cyrus and Erma Speicher. His journey on this Earth was marked by kindness, faith, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Charles and Eva (Drupp) Speicher, as well as his sisters, Shirley Speicher Hoyer and Margaret Speicher. He leaves behind his only love of over 60 years, Mary Jo; sons, Terry (Shelley), Kerry (Stephanie), and Loren; his grandkids, Cyrus (Rebecca), Kaylana, Megan, Lillian, and Deanna, his many great-grandkids; sisters, June and Mary (Gary); and his brother David (Kay).
Richard had many jobs over the years, from working at Sears Roebuck, serving as a custodian at Fort Wayne Public Schools, to serving as pastor of New Miami Missionary church. Richard was a teacher at Camden Middle, Gratis Junior High, and was principal of West Elkton Elementary for 26 years, then as interim principal at Immanuel Lutheran School for 4 years. After retiring from education, he became an independent contractor and worked for himself - there was always a project at home and opportunity to serve others, which he did for the rest of his life.
Richard and Mary Jo started a marriage counseling ministry at their church which they ran for years. They then became chaplains, serving at the Woodlands of Hamilton and ministering to those in need. They also coordinated a free food delivery program in their neighborhood. Richard’s passion to serve the Lord led him on numerous Work and Witness mission trips where he was occasionally joined by his family to serve in Argentina, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, and parts of Europe.
Richard truly had a servant’s heart filled with love for the Lord and compassion for those in need, both near and far. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his generosity, and the warmth he shared with those around him. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
