Rickey Thomas Larkin Jr.

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Rickey Thomas Larkin Jr., who died on June 29, 2025, in Butler County, Ohio, at the age of 35.

Born on November 26, 1989, Rickey was a remarkably intelligent and compassionate soul whose life was marked by deep curiosity and a thoughtful spirit. He was a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, where he was writing his dissertation on language policy in the Philippines. Nearing completion of his degree, Rickey's work reflected his passion for language, communication, and the power of words to bridge cultures and connect people.

Rickey loved to write—not just academically, but personally—as a way to reflect, communicate, and build understanding. His intellect was matched by his empathy, and his presence left a meaningful impact on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted parents, Rick Larkin Sr. and Darlene Larkin; his loving sister, Amberly Larkin; his adored nephew, Logan Larkin; his loyal uncle, Avery Larkin; his dear aunts, Ellen (Don) McPherson and Dinah (Kevin) Sims; and numerous cousins. Rickey is also survived by his beloved fiancée, Raghad, with whom he shared a deep love.

Rickey's passing is mourned by a wide circle of friends, mentors, and colleagues from around the globe—people who were touched by his warmth, insight, and unwavering curiosity. Through academic collaboration, travel, and enduring friendship, Rickey built connections that crossed borders and hearts.

He is preceded in death by each of his grandparents, his dear aunts Coleen Jesse and Linda (Pete) Glenn, and multiple cousins who were taken far too soon.

The family welcomes your love, support, and memories as they navigate this time of mourning. A celebration of Rickey’s life will be held at a later date.

Though his time with us was far too brief, the love he shared and the wisdom he offered will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
