Robert D. Gentry

Robert D. Gentry, age 72 of Hamilton, affectionately known as Officer Bob and Bobby Joe, passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 21, 2012. He was born in Hamilton on February 18, 1940 the son of Robert and Cecil M. (Helton) Gentry. Robert was a 1958 graduate of Fairfield High School. He was employed by the City of Hamilton Police Department for the past fifty years. On June 28, 1958 in Hamilton he married Barbara L. Timler who preceded him in death in 2008.

Bob dedicated himself to the Hamilton Police Department and their programs. He was the instructor of Safety Town for thirty-six years and was the School Resource Officer. Bob was also the instructor for the Traffic School, DUI Program, Seat Belt Program, and a member of the Butler County Mounted Patrol. Bob was a member of the Safety Council, Elks, FOP Lodge #38, Masonic Lodge #719, Shriners, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by three sons, David (Lucinda) Gentry, Michael (LeeAnn) Gentry, and Robert W. Gentry; three brothers, Jim (Margaret) Gentry, Jerry (Linda) Gentry, and Dick Gentry, all of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Lyndsay, Whitney, Robert, Annie, and Olivia Gentry; one great-grandson, Tyson Posillico; his dedicated horses, Sydney and Buckles; and his faithful dog, Mimi; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at the Princeton Pike Church of God, 6101 Princeton Glendale Road, on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with Associate Pastor Ron Medley officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Robert D. Gentry Memorial Fund at any First Financial Bank.
