Robert G. Schallip

Robert G. Schallip, age 88 of Hamilton, passed away peacefully at his residence where he lived all of his life, on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 5:30AM. He was born in Hamilton on October 30, 1925 to George and Mary (Kohler) Schallip. Robert attended school in Williamsdale and New Miami graduating from Seven Mile High School in 1943. After his father’s death, while Bob was still in high school, he farmed the family farm and managed Schallip’s Garage. In 1947, he became a partner in Schallip and Augspurger Garage with his cousin, Cliff Augspurger. They assumed the operation of the New Miami school buses from his mother, continuing the family tradition of owning and operating school buses started by his father.

In June of 1949, Bob married Alice Stecher in Hamilton, OH. In 1972 he formed Schallip’s, Inc., retiring in 1982. Between 1947 and 1982, he transported thousands of New Miami and Hamilton children safely to and from school. He won many safe driver awards and a 1st place in a State Bus Drivers’ Competition. He served on a board to develop bus drivers’ tests for the State of Ohio.

In 1943 Bob joined the Seven Mile Chapter of Izaak Walton League of America. As an officer and trustee, he devoted many hours maintaining the club house and promoting the precepts of the club. He was a volunteer fireman in Williamsdale (St. Clair Twp.) for many years. Bob dearly loved his family and spending time at his place in Barbeau, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Alice Schallip; children, Robert (Mary) Schallip Jr., Jean (John) Snyder, Joan (Blain) Bowling, Mark (Jacquelyn) Schallip; grandchildren, Kyle (Jen) Snyder, Casey (Maribel) Snyder, Katherine (Casey) Wells, Michele Schallip, Stephanie (Mike) Pins, Robert Schallip III, Ryerson (Hannah) Bowling, Benton Schallip, Elizabeth Schallip; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 1PM. Burial will follow at Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 11AM - 1PM at the funeral home.
