Ronald C. Acres, age 84 of West Chester, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Ron was born in Oneida, Tennessee on May 1, 1938, the son of Argie Acres and Opal (Payne) Acres. The Acres family later moved to Ohio, where his parents established the Amelia Florist. Ron graduated from Amelia High School in 1956 and studied at the University of Cincinnati. In February 1960, he joined the United States Air Force Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in 1966. On April 14, 1962, Ron was united in marriage with Betty Lou Peters, with whom he enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Ron was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Acres; their daughter and only child, Ronda Lynne Acres, and his three younger brothers: Roy (Sandy) Acres of Hamilton, Ohio; Randy (Sandy) Acres of Naples, Florida; and Robert Acres of Oneida, Tennessee, along with other loving relatives, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
As a Senior Engineering Designer at General Electric Company (GE), he had three patents and received numerous awards. Ron was recognized by the GE Aircraft Engine Business Group with a rarely granted “Managerial Award” for his contribution of all drafting efforts in support of the GE37 Advanced Compressor Rig design. In addition to the award the family received a letter stating that “these occasions are intentionally infrequent because they are meant to give very special recognition to an accomplishment of unusual significant to the success of our business.” He was a member of Elfun Greater Cincinnati. He was employed by GE for 46 years and 7 months. In addition, he taught classes and mentored others.
After his retirement, he went to work at TK Engineering, where he continued to design fan engine parts, using the same computer he used at GE. Later, the company was purchased by CDI, allowing him to continue working for an additional total of 11 years and 9 months designing for GE. He worked a total of 58 years and 6 months on Jet/Fan engine parts. In Ron’s own words, “Not many people can say they worked at something that they actually loved for their entire working life.” Over the years, Ron also enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Bible studies, coaching and playing softball, drawing house plans, fishing, cooking, and traveling.
