Ronald Leroy Britt, age 90, passed away peacefully at Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton, OH, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Ron was born during the Dust Bowl in Abilene, Kansas on March 1, 1935, the son of Elvin and Lona (Conn) Britt. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1958 to 1960. On June 29, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas, he married Judith Ann Salter.
He attended the Delhi, Laney, West Buckeye and Willowdale one-room schoolhouses and would later tell wonderful stories about coyotes following him and his brother Sonny to school. At Abilene High School, Ron was a three-letter athlete in basketball, track and football. He was also Senior Class President. As Editor of the yearbook, Ron received a letter from President Ike Eisenhower for the graduating class. Ron graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in mechanical engineering.
His career took his family to Chicago, IL; Spring Lake, MI; Middletown, OH; and Belvidere, IL, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Engineering with the Belvedere Company.
Ron was a District Governor for Rotary District 5680 in Kansas. He was active in Rotary chapters in Belvidere, IL; Abilene, KS; and Lebanon, OH and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
His interests involved glassblowing, painting, drawing, Britt heritage, historic homes, Talmage and Abilene history. He and his wife Judy were members of various Corvette and Carnival glass organizations. In his retirement, Ron authored “Birds of a Feather”, a detailed and illustrated account of the Peacock and Urn carnival glass pattern. To preserve one-room schoolhouse history, Ron worked with the Talmage Historical Society to place stone markers at their sites.
Ron is survived by his wife, Judy; three children, Brett Britt (Thelma), Mark Britt (the Rev. Ted Durst), and Melissa Britt; six grandchildren, Angela Overbey (Shane), Elizabeth Saylor (James), Mary Kemp (Brian), Adam Britt (Meghan), Thomas Shuler and Gretchen Shuler; twelve great grandchildren, Katelyn, Matthew, Brittany, Shane, Kylie, Ryley, Joshua, Abigail, Gavin, Olivia, Aubrey, and Sydney; one great great grandson Grayson; two siblings, Karen Watt and Steve Britt; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
