Roxie Wells, age 100 of Fairfield, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Roxie was born in Leslie County, Kentucky on September 19, 1924 to the late John and Susan (Turner) Bailey. After graduating high school, Roxie moved to Gary, Indiana to support the war effort and worked in a factory as a riveter. Near the end of WWII, she was recruited to work as a cook in Maine where she met the love of her life, Stanley Wells. Over the years, they relocated to the Cincinnati area and raised a family. She worked as a meat cutter at A&P, then in the cafeteria at Vulcan Manufacturing and later for the IGA on Fair Avenue in Hamilton. Roxie was a devoted, 73-year member of Cincinnati Gospel Assembly. Her unwavering faith called her to serve in many roles with the church. Roxie enjoyed needlecraft and was known for her crocheted blankets and knitted socks. Above all, Roxie loved God, her family, and serving others. Roxie will be dearly missed by her sons, Larry (Ruth) Wells and Ron (Kimm) Wells; her grandchildren, Judy (Cullie) Josey, Kathy Johnson, Veronica Hurley, John (Joy) Wells, Carolyn (Chris) Lewandowski, Debby (John) Stewart, and George (Whitney) Wells; her 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Roxie was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W. Wells; her granddaughter, Heather Wells; and her 9 siblings. A Celebration of Roxie’s Life will be held at Cincinnati Gospel Assembly Church, 12055 Pippin Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45231 on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM, with visitation from 12:00 NOON to 1:00PM.
