Ruby Lewis, age 99 of Fairfield, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, June 7, 2024. Ruby was born in Hazard, Kentucky on January 21, 1925 to Mitchell and Louise Couch. At the age of 3, her family moved to Hamilton where they had a farm, raising chickens and cattle. Her love for gardening began there. Upon Earl’s return from serving during WWII in the marines, the two were wed on November 1, 1947, in Hamilton. Together they raised their two children while working at The Hamilton Autographic Company. At home, they enjoyed working in their garden, raising tomatoes, corn and beans. Ruby was known for her amazing cooking. She worked along side her husband on his many projects. She was a charter member of the church she loved, Fairfield Community Church. Ruby served in the nursery, was on the church cleaning team and provided many delicious dishes for church socials.
Ruby is survived by her children, Sharon (Albert) Tegge and Stephen (Carol) Lewis; her grandchildren, Sheila Lewis, Timothy (Christi) Lewis, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Brighton, Daniel (the late Laura) Tegge and Carolyn (Zach) Steever; her great-grandchildren, Anna, Emily, Hannah, Noah, Sarah, Eloise, Amos, Joel, Samson, Charity, Jairus, Henry, Madeline, Faith, Hope and Olivia; and many other family members and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Earl Lewis Jr.; and her siblings, Robert, Calloway, Juanita and Kelly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Fairfield Community Church, 5650 Winton Rd., Fairfield, Ohio. Funeral service will be held at Fairfield Community Church on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Richard Sterwerf officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Memorial contributions can be made to Fairfield Community Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of those who have shown their love to Ruby and her family through the years and Hospice of Cincinnati for their compassion and care. Ruby will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
