Rufena Smith

Rufena Smith, age 85 of Fairfield passed away at Heartland of Woodridge on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 7:30 AM. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky on September 2, 1926 the daughter of John and Lizzie (Gambrel) Lunsford. Rufena was a member of the Fairfield Church of God. In Clay County, Kentucky she married Fred Gibson, and he preceded her in death; in June, 1961 in Hamilton she married Omus Smith, and he preceded her in death in 2004.

She is survived by a daughter, Nellie (Lester) Hooker of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Lisa, Sheila, Stephanie, Johna, Brian, and Amanda; five great-grandchildren, Zach, Anthony, Makenzie, Madison, and Laney; extended family, Matthew, Sarah, and Natalie Wiseman; and her caregiver and friend, Sue Buell. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Gibson.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Darryl McCoy of Fairfield Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
