Shizuko Schanie

March 20, 1928 — September 21, 2008

Shizuko Schanie, age 80 of Hamilton passed away at her residence on Sunday, September 21, 2008. She was born in Ikigun Nagasaki-Ken, Japan on March 20, 1928 the daughter of Mineshirou and Kuni Yamaguchi. Shizuko was a retired seamstress for Marilyn’s on Main and at Elder Beerman, and was later employed at Schroder Manor. She enjoyed knitting and quilting and was a member of Westside Church of Christ. On June 25, 1955 in Fukuoka, Japan she married Ernest Schanie Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Ernie Schanie Jr. of Hamilton; a daughter, Kim (Yoshi) Fukuda of Fukuoka, Japan; a son, Kurt (Emily) Schanie of Fairfield Township; four grandchildren, Yokun (Nozomi), Ryo (Mari), Mai (Kenji), and Nikki, all of Fukuoka, Japan; two great-grandchildren, Sakurako and Ryuta; and a sister, Miyoko Yamaguchi of Kita Kyushu, Japan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Matsue Yamaguchi.

Funeral service will be held at the Westside Church of Christ, 1190 Stahlheber Road, on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Dan Knisley, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Jeanetta Rich for her loving care. Memorials may be made to Tri-State Parkinson’s Wellness Chapter, 165 W. Galbraith Road, Suite B, Cincinnati 45216.
