Stephen E. Grimes, age 62, of Camden, passed away at home on Monday, February 24, 2025. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, on June 30, 1962, to James Stuart and Polly Marie Grimes. Stephen lived a life filled with curiosity, craftsmanship, and a deep love for the outdoors.
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, Stephen dedicated 36 years of service as a civil engineer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before retiring. His sharp mind, problem-solving skills, and passion for creation made him a master of many trades—whether building, fixing, or innovating, there was little he couldn’t do.
On December 31, 1999, he married the love of his life, Kimberly Gingerich, beginning a new millennium hand in hand. Together, they raised six children, building a home filled with love, adventure, and a shared appreciation for nature.
Stephen was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hiking, camping, gardening, biking, caving, kayaking, and farming. He was also a skilled blacksmith, photographer, and amateur astronomer, always exploring new frontiers both on Earth and in the skies. A licensed amateur extra radio operator with the call sign N8SEG, he thrived in hands-on projects, always eager to learn and teach. He was a true DIY-er at heart, a mentor to many, and a steadfast friend.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kimberly Grimes; his children, Matthew (Sarah) Grimes, Amanda (Brian DeSnyder) Grimes, Adam Grimes, Jeremy (Krista) Taylor, Rachael (Michael) Waldroff and Michael (Anissa) Taylor; and his grandchildren, Hailey, Antonio, Liam, Mia, Sophia, Adalia, Abraham, Ivah, Ezekiel, Walela, Bentley, Myla and Caleb. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; and his infant sister, Susan Grimes.
Stephen’s legacy will live on in the lessons he taught, the skills he shared, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered for his generosity, ingenuity, and adventurous spirit—a man who truly made the most of every moment.
