Susan S. Hawkins

Susan S. Hawkins, age 71 of Hamilton passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, May 15, 2010 after a long illness. She was born in Hamilton on February 21, 1939 the daughter of Hubert and Mildred (Brigmon) Singleton. Susan was raised in Hamilton and was a 1957 graduate of Hamilton High School. She loved to read, always having a book in her hands, and she passed that love on to her children. Susan enjoyed being outdoors, tending her flower beds, and her occasional trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She was employed in the purchasing department at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield for 25 years, retiring in 2007. On June 17, 1961 in Hamilton she married Robert E. Hawkins.

Susan was a wonderful wife and mother who is survived by her husband, Robert E. Hawkins of Hamilton, son Robert "Robbie" E. Hawkins, Jr. of Hamilton; daughter, Becci Hawkins of Monroe; brother, Jack (Orilene) Singleton of Ellijay, Georgia; and sister, Penny (Richard) McHenry of Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael Singleton.

Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Fuenral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Smith of East River Road Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery.
