Susan Hatton (Ruby) Richardson

May 26, 1916 — June 28, 2010

Susan (Ruby) Hatton Richardson, age 94 of Oxford went to live with her Lord in Heaven on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 1:15 PM. She was born in Oneida, Kentucky (Clay County) on May 26, 1916 the daughter of Theophilus and Mally (Short) Hatton. On September 24, 1934 in Covington, Kentucky, she married Willard J. Richardson, and together they owned and operated Howell Dry Cleaners on Main Street in Hamilton. Ruby was the owner/operator of Serendipity Gift Shop in Millville, where she was known for her skills and teaching needlework, knitting, and crocheting to people in the greater Tri-State area. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Millville, Eastern Star Washington Lodge Chapter #195 for 52 years, and a member of the Ladies Shriners Washington Lodge Chapter #197 for many years. She was well known for her love of family, friends, cooking, books, gardening, birds, animals, helping people, and volunteering for several organizations.

She is survived by two sons, W. Neil (Sherry) Richardson of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Michael G. (Erma) Richardson of Oxford; a devoted son-in-law, Owen Bowlin of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Willard Kyle (Jackie) Richardson of Florence, Oregon, Michelle D. (Steve) Timocheck of Laguna Hills, California, Sean (Maggie) Richardson of Georgetown, Ohio, Thyra (Dan) Sens of Somerville, Ohio and Michael Patrick (Sue) Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia; 8 great-grandchildren, Gwen Richardson of Florence, Oregon, Kelly Richardson of Georgetown, Ohio, Haley (Mike) Arlinghaus of Franklin, Ohio, Dana C. Clark of Oxford, Michael Zack Sens of Somerville, and Shuck, Anna, and John Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia; a great-great grandchild, Maximus C. (Mac) Arlinghaus of Franklin; three sisters-in-law, Vera Hatton of Oxford, Wanda Hatton of Tennesee, and Patricia Dewing Hatton of Louisville, Kentucky; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Richardson of Cincinnati; a very special nephew, Dave (Jan) Spitzmuller of Cincinnati; and many other special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard Richardson; a daughter, Carolyn J. Bowlin; brothers William B., Theo, Warren, Ernest, Luther, Aaron and Wayne Hatton; and sisters Mary (Clayton) Isaacs, Opal (James) Stewart, Thelma Hatton, and Ruth Gersbacher.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Allen C. Minor, Pastor of Faith United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Reily Township Fire Department and Life Squad for all their loving care and concern for Ruby in her time of need. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Reily Township Fire Department and Life Squad, 3330 Law Road, Oxford, Ohio 45056 or to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 11500 Northlake Drive, Suite 400, Cincinnati, Ohio 45249.
