Sybil Elizabeth Updike

Sybil Elizabeth Updike, age 95 of Okeana passed away at Golden Years Nursing Center on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 1:40 PM. She was born in Mount Vernon, Kentucky on September 26, 1916 the daughter of Cy Wade and Lucy (Price) Shiplett. Sybil was a member of Okeana and Ross Senior Citizens, Rebecca Lodge, Morgan Township Historical Society, and Okeana Methodist Church.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Rob Steele, Jeff Steele, Stephanie Steele, Michelle Steele, and Brett (Amy) Updike; and a number of great-grandchildren, including her two special great-grandchildren, Alexis and Dalton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Updike; a son, Robert Perry Updike; a daughter, Patricia Ann Steele; two grandchildren; Jennifer and Scotty Steele; and ten siblings.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jim Clark of Okeana Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Golden Years Nursing Center for all their care and support.
