Sylvia L. Rush

Sylvia L. Rush, 76, of Hamilton, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2016. She was the first of six children, and was born on May 4, 1939 in Olanta, S.C. to Louie and Marguerite (McElveen) Gaymon. Sylvia married Clinton Rush on May 11, 1956 and was later blessed with four children, Cherrie (Ron) Deavers, Jeanette (Paul) Cox, Bryan, and Jason.

Sylvia was a thoughtful Christian and member of the First Church of God since 1958. She formerly served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for over 20 years, preschool dept. principal of Sunday School, Bible School director, member of the Board of Christian Education and the Board of Small World Preschool, and Council Representative for Cleveland Elementary School. She was employed for 25 years by the Hamilton City School Food Service, and retired in 2003 as cafeteria cook manager at Madison Elementary. Sylvia enjoyed reading, journaling, cooking, gospel music (Gaithers were her favorite), the Loyal Partners class, and spending time with family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who always had kind words and a smile for everyone.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of over 59 years, and their children; her sisters, Pency, Diane, Patricia, and Darline; brother, Ed; grandchildren, Anella (Ryan), Luke, Nathan (Sindy), NiChelle, Matthew, Brandon, and Kristen (Rodney); 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave. on Monday, February, 22, 2016 from 10AM-12PM followed by the funeral service officiated by Rev. Amy L. Arnold at 12 PM. Burial will proceed at Rose Hill Burial Park.
