Thomas Douglas Porter

Thomas Douglas Porter, age 93 of Hamilton passed away in his sleep surrounded by his family on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 5:00 PM. He was born in Danville, Illinois on January 30, 1916 the son of Howard Arthur and Mary Margaret (Muse) Porter. Thomas was a master carpenter for numerous years and was employed by Beckett Paper Company for 25 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Millville Avenue Church of God for 40 years. On December 30, 1940 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky he married Eldiva Crump who preceded him in death in 2001.

He is survived by five children, William Arthur (Lisa) Porter of Batavia, Margaret Sue (Charles) Harville, Albert Wendell (Hettie), Judith Ann (Gregory) Watson, and David Allan (Janice) Porter, all of Hamilton; eleven grandchildren, Charles (Kimberly) Harville Jr., Heather (Paul) Mann, Cynthia Gelinske, Scott (Charmaine) Watson; Brian (Jodi) Watson, Hollie (Brian) Foutz, Sarah (Matthew) Hoskins, Angela (Neil) Herrin, Stephen Porter, Andrew Porter, and Savannah Porter; sixteen great-grandchildren, Chad, Kyle, Nicholas, Emily, Kayla, Alivia, Ethan, Tanner, Abby, Katey, Karlay, Riley, Joshua, Rachel, Molly, and Kylie; and his buddy, George Butler of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Franklin, Orville, and Howard Porter Jr.; one sister, Wilma Pauline Chain; and his daughter-in-law, Diana Porter.

Funeral service will be held at the Millville Avenue Church of God, 1369 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Steven Collins and Brother Rodney Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the church.
