Thomas J. Vonderhaar

Thomas J. VonDerHaar, age 90 of Hamilton, passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones on Friday, September 15, 2017. Tom was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 13, 1927 to John and Mary (Colligan) VonDerHaar. He graduated from Cathedral High School, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Class of 1945. Tom was drafted into the U.S. Army from 1945-1947, being stationed in Munich, Germany. Tom retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Tom was a registered real estate broker in Indiana, business owner, and entrepreneur. He was an avid classic car collector and family man. Tom was known for his sense of humor, his tireless work ethic, and his generous heart. He was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Peter in Chains Parish.

Tom is survived by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, MaryAnn (nee Mick) VonDerHaar; his children, Joseph T. (Carla) VonDerHaar, Ann V. (Allen) Denniston, and Timothy J. (Laurel) VonDerHaar; his grandchildren, Carissa Denniston, Maxwell VonDerHaar, Alexander VonDerHaar , Benjamin (Kathleen) VonDerHaar, Adam VonDerHaar, Chad Denniston, and Samuel VonDerHaar; his brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas (Patty) Mick; his beloved, life-long friends, George (and the late Louise) Schaub; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, John (Pat) VonDerHaar, Catherine (Bud) Harrell, Mary (Ed) Stapleton, Robert VonDerHaar, and Dr. Gerrard (Vera) VonDerHaar; and his Aunt Katie Colligan.

Funeral service will be held at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, 451 Ridgelawn Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Hamilton, Cincinnati Right to Life, or to a charity of donor’s choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Hamilton and their wonderful care givers.
