Valeria "Peggy" Burtis

Valeria "Peggy" Burtis, age 93 of Hamilton, passed away at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 2:55 PM. She was born in Hamilton on October 4, 1914 the daughter of William and Mary (Boston) Reed. Peggy was employed as a beautician and then as a cook for the Hamilton School District until her retirement in 1969. She was a member of Lindenwald United Methodist Church. Peggy was a care giver to her family, friends, and neighbors. On November 21, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana she married Howard Burtis who preceded her in death in 1981.

She is survived by three children, Neil (Rosemary) Burtis of Hamilton, Fran (Francis) Stang of Hamilton, and Linda (John) Hogan of Medina, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Pat, Chris, Bob, Maria, Denice, Dixie, Andy, Mark and Peggy; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; dear friend, Marion Reed of Hamilton; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Valentine and Charles Reed; and three sisters, Frances Geckeler, Inez Conyers, and Catherine Bannon.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Edwin R. Beck officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Hawthorn Glen and Hospice of Cincinnati for all their care and support.
