Vincent P. Staarmann

July 19, 1929 — March 3, 2013

Vincent P. Staarmann, age 83, of Hamilton, died peacefully in his sleep on March 3, 2013. He was born on July 19, 1929 to George and Agnes (Jung) Staarmann. A graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School in 1947, he was employed by General Motors at Fischer Body for 38 years, retiring in 1986. After retiring from General Motors, he was employed at Potter’s Park Golf Course for 19 years, which he often described as the best job of his life. Vincent served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Monkeys Mutual Aid Society, AmVets Post 1983, and Knights of Columbus. He was very proud that he was a life member of Community Blood Bank donating nearly 30 gallons. Vincent was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Millville, and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 72 years. On August 23, 1952, he married Betty Lou Nogle and they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. To this union were born three wonderful children, Nick, Mike, and Debbie. He also had great pride in and enjoyed eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The one great sorrow of his life was the death of his beloved son, Michael, on March 5, 2002. Vince loved the outdoors, especially spending time tending to his home garden, and feeding hummingbirds. He enjoyed traveling, especially the many family vacations. Vince spent many weekends on his boat, relaxing and enjoying time with family and friends. During his retirement he enjoyed playing cards with his friends.

He leaves behind to cherish and love him, his wife, Betty; his son, Dr. Nicholas (Kathleen) Staarmann; his daughter, Deborah (Troy) Cyrus, both of Hamilton; eight grandchildren; Matthew (Kristy) Staarmann of Cincinnati, Stacie (Nicholas) Gilliland of Columbus, Jenna Ottesen of Hamilton, Christopher Staarmann of Hamilton, Ashley Staarmann of Chicago, Scott Staarmann of Hamilton, Abby (Harsha) Nalabolu of New York and Brian (Sara) Staarmann of Cincinnati; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Jack, Lucy, Jade and Julian; two sisters, Mary Lou (Jack) Roberts of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Patricia (John) Betz of Hamilton; one brother, Mark (Jeanette) Staarmann of Hamilton; sister in law Mary Jo Staarmann of Hamilton, and sister in law and brother in law Gloria and Dave Sullivan of Morgantown, West Virginia; aunt Ruby Nogle of Charlotte, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael; his parents; his mother and father in law, Elda and Thuriel Nogle; and a brother, George Staarmann.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 7 at 11:30 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2550 Millville Avenue, with Father Ron Combs celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, March 6 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Spina Bifida Coalition of Cincinnati, 644 Linn St. Suite 635, Cincinnati, OH 45203 or to Colon Cancer task force, through the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd Cincinnati, OH 45206. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and Hospice of Hamilton, who provided such wonderful care these past 4 years.
