Virginia Hutchison

Virginia Hutchison, age 95 of Hamilton passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Westover Retirement Community, where she had resided for the past seven years. She was born on May 25, 1915 in Durbin, West Virginia, the daughter of Howard D. and Icie (Little) Denison. On October 28, 1940 she was united in marriage to Alan C. Hutchison, in Akron, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2003. Virginia graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. in Education. She taught in the public schools in Ravenna, Ohio. Virginia was a member of the Easter Star, the DAR, a former volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hamilton, Ohio. She was an avid reader and loved doing crosswords.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis A. (Susan) Hutchison of Santa Clarita, California and Richard L. Hutchison of Dayton; a daughter, Nancy G. (Randall) Starkie of Hamilton; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Howard D. Denison, Ralph Denison, and Robert L. Denison.

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Anthony Behler, Ann Stone, M.S.N., C. N.P., Dr. John Held, and the nursing staff at Westover Retirement Community for their care. A special thanks goes to her caregiver, Jetta Baker.

A memorial service will be held at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna, Ohio on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Virginia’s son Dennis A. Hutchison officiating. A memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM. Cremation was held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
