Walter Charles Pooley

April 9, 1924 — May 10, 2010

Walter Charles Pooley, Devoted father and husband, April 9, 1924 – May 10, 2010, Native of Hamilton, Ohio, he attended Fairfield School for 12 years with perfect attendance. He served in the Navy from 1943-1946 on the U.S.S. Wasp. On Nov. 18, 1945, he married Anne Margaret in Lynn, Massachusetts. Walter worked at the Hamilton Journal News for over 40 years. He started as a paper boy and eventually worked as a pressman. He retired from the newspaper at the age of 64. The Pooley family attended St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church for over 60 years, where all three of their children attended school. Walter was a member of American Legion and active in St. Vincent de Paul. Walter will be remembered and forever cherished by his family and friends for his commitment, dedication, strength, and character. He was a friend to everyone he met.

Proceeded in death by his children Deborah Martha Pooley and Walter Michael "Mike" Pooley, his mother Martha Pooley, father Charles Pooley, and brothers Donald, Raymond. Survivors are his loving wife of 64 years, Anne Margaret Pooley, daughter Bonnie Susan Shinkle, daughter-in-law Carol Pooley, grandchildren Keri Anne Preter, Ami Lynne Hamersley, Jennifer Pooley, Laura Pooley, and Brian Pooley, great-grandchildren Anna Margaret Preter, David Charles Preter, Thomas Matthew Preter, Brooke Morgan Hamersley, Austin Charles Hamersley, and Ashley Lynne Hamersley. Funeral arrangements are being made by Brown-Dawson of Hamilton, Ohio. Funeral mass will be held at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17th, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church.
