William “Bill” Smith, 79, of Darrtown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 13, 1947, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose laughter, kindness, and generous heart touched everyone who knew him.
Bill shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Melodie Smith. Together they built a family that was the center of his world. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Yvonne (Larry) Miedema, Johnny (Deanna) Smith, and Tammy (Robert) Simpson.
He was a proud grandfather to Brenton, Amber (Brandon), Courtney (Derek), Cacey, Robert, Miklaye (Brandon), Klayton (Jersey), MaryJane, and Jayson; and a cherished great-grandfather to Nevaeh, Ayden, Liliana, Liam, Gavin, Bella, Weston and Waylon; and the keeper of his garden, “TomCat” Bill is also survived by his sisters Sylvia, Sandy, and Cindy, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lillian Smith; siblings, Jean, Tommy, Gary, and his beloved grandchildren, Derrick Jones, 1LT Alexis Vega; and also his faithful four-legged companion Toby Dog. Anyone who knew Bill knew how deeply he loved his family. He found his greatest happiness in the simple moments spent with the people he loved most. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, sharing stories, making people laugh, and helping others whenever he could. Bill had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and the memories and stories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his humor, strength, and the love he gave so freely. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on June 14th at Reily Community Center, (6093 Reily Millville Road, Oxford, Ohio) where family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
