Warren Jeff Townsend, age 90 of Hamilton went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 under hospice care. He was born on May 8, 1921 in Clay County, Kentucky, the son of Isaac and Myrtle (Tuttle) Townsend. Warren served with the 15th Air Force during World War II. His B-24 Liberator was shot down on its thirteenth mission over Ploesti Oil Refinery in Romania on May 31, 1944. He was captured by the Germans and was held as a prisoner of war for three months. Warren was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and Air Medal. He was employed at Mosler Safe Company for 25 years, retiring in 1984. Warren was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton. He married Virginia Allen on December 24, 1943 and she preceded him in death on June 18, 2000.
He is survived by a son, Jay (Regina) Townsend; a sister, Elva Alstock; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ray Townsend; a sister, Ruby Steward; and his beloved grandson Brad Townsend.
Visitation will be 10am until time of service (11am), Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, with Pastor Ken Dugas of Allison Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
