Wilbur Gary Cope, age 69 of Hamilton, passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 1:00 AM. He was born in Hamilton on May 16, 1948 the son of Elias Wilbur and Margie (Young) Cope. Gary was employed as an engineer for the railroad and as a pulp mixer for Champion Paper for numerous years, retiring in 2012. On April 17, 1969 in Hamilton he married Brenda Simpson and she preceded him in death in 2011.
He is survived by four children, Amy Cope, Becci Reeves, Catherine Cope, and Kevin Cope, all of Hamilton; devoted sister, caregiver, and best friend, Debbie Moore of Hamilton; one granddaughter, Pharron Day of Fairfield; two great grandchildren, Lillian Day and Kingsley Emrick; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Daryl and Donald Cope.
Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Rick Witt of Faith Pentecostal officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Wellington Manor, Dr. Karnik, the Critical Care Team at Ft. Hamilton ICU, and the Hospice Wing for all their care and support.
