Willa Mae Roy, age 90 of Cincinnati passed away at Sterling House on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 2:55 AM. She was born in Montgomery County, Kentucky on December 10, 1919 the daughter of John Wesley and Lucinda (Halsey) Brewer. Willa was a graduate of West Chester High and Hamilton School of Practical Nursing, and was employed as an LPN at Fort Hamilton Hospital for 21 years. She had a genuinely sweet personality and was a wonderful lady who had a keen interest in people. Willa was a person of great faith who deeply loved the Lord and others. She loved quilting and enjoyed volunteering for the Ohio Reads Program. Willa was a member of First Church of God for over 50 years. On November 11, 1950 in Richmond, Indiana she married Fremont Roy, and he preceded her in death in 1999.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Dennis) Knose of Harrison; two sons, Guy (Sharon) Garrett of Panama City, Florida and Gordon (Sandra) Garrett of Fairborn, Ohio; three nephews, Mark Estes of Hamilton, Mike Estes of Panama City, Florida, and Terry Owens of Florida; and Willa also leaves the loving legacy of her eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. To Willa’s great sorrow, she was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Roy in 2007; her parents; and two sisters, Willa’s twin Alma Estes and Louise Owens.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 12:00 noon with Dr. Randall Spence officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon.
